Hyatt High Jinks
Dress: Made by Me using Butterick B5708 and vintage fabric.
Belt: From Hell Bunny Sunrise dress
This weekend my partner Luke and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary! He surprised me with an overnight stay at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne! The Hyatt is one of the ritziest hotels in the city and for the first time I my life I felt incredibly underdressed.
The views of the city from our room were quite literally breathtaking. I didn't think that was a real thing, but it is. I couldn't believe it. Luckily Luke had insisted that I pack a camera, and even in my poorly made sundress I felt super glamorous looking out over Melbourne.
The dress itself is Butterick B5708. I made it early last year, and it's the second or third item of clothing I've ever made. Looking at it now I can tell pretty clearly, but I still love it. I made it from a beautiful 1960's fabric, and I think I've got just enough left stashed away somewhere to squeeze out another dress. The pattern itself is wonderful. I've made it four times since (and the results have been great now that my skills have improved). If I find the time I'll do a proper review on it in the future, but I highly recommend it. It's a great pattern for beginners!
The weekend was absolutely perfect. I was incredibly spoilt. Not only did we stay in what's most likely the fanciest hotel I'll ever stay in for my entire life, but we went out to lunch and dinner, saw Macbeth (INCREDIBLE) and yesterday I took Luke to see The Lion King musical. It was my second time seeing it, the last being back in 2005, and it is very good. I probably would have enjoyed it more if the lady sitting next to me would have stopped Shazam-ing every single song on her phone. I mean, seriously, 1. It's incredibly rude, 2. you're at The Lion King, 3. Google it later 4. It is in the program you have on your lap, 5. Did I mention that you're at The Lion King, one of the most famous films and musicals of all time? The song is The Circle of Life.
I'm exhausted but I've had a great time. Also, doesn't Luke just look terribly handsome here? I'm a very lucky lady.
